A woman who took in unwanted animals was devastated Friday by news many of her pets died in a house fire. The Calgary Fire Department said 16 cats and three dogs were killed in the blaze on San Fernando Crescent N.E., which caused $50,000 worth of property damage. Two cats and seven dogs made it out of the house and are being cared for at an animal clinic. Shelly Myshaniuk, who lives at the house with her brother and elderly mother, said many of the pets had health or behaviour problems. She took them in because "it's better than euthanasia."
